Hi-there Nigel. I haven't used Ubuntu on the Hyper-V virtual machine so I can't compare but I can say a few things about WSL2 and running the Ubuntu desktop. I tried to set up Hyper-V but I think it needed its own GPU - I only have one GPU. WSL2 can share the same GPU. I also like that it can integrate into VS Code, access both filesystems, and use both Windows and Linux commands from the command-line. I don't use the GUI for development but I regularly access, edit, and save files on the Linux filesystem from Explorer and the command-line. Also, Microsoft is about to release introduce graphical programs in WSL2 that works seamlessly on the Windows desktop.
