Kudos on your determination and progress.

The process shouldn't be this complicated. I'm going to go through the steps in the article tonight to see if I can replicate the issue, and I'll try your suggestions about shortening the load time.

I checked the GitHub, and read your comment, but I didn't see anything about the IP address that's stored in the DISPLAY variable.
